Al-Rashid University College organizes an awareness lecture on the prevention of thalassemia and the importance of pre-marital screening Within the framework of spreading health awareness, Al-Rashid University College held an awareness lecture entitled “Prevention of thalassemia and the importance of pre-marital examination,” in coordination between the Development and Continuing Education Center and the Baghdad Health Department/Public Health Department. The lecture was presented by Dr. Angham Muhammad Ali from the Maternal and Child Health Care Unit, and Dr. Khaleda Abboud from School Health.
They reviewed the causes of thalassemia and ways to prevent it. The lecture pointed out that thalassemia, which results from a genetic mutation that disrupts the production of normal hemoglobin, is considered a chronic hereditary disease that affects about 25,000 people in Iraq, and bone marrow transplantation is the only treatment for it.
